Maddie is Spreading her Wings…..

Maddie Roxy 1

Ranger Maddie is leaving us to explore new horizons and spend more time with her family.

Maddie was studying chemistry at JCU when she joined us as a volunteer in mid-2020. She soon realized that her true passion was working with animals and by December  she had swapped her green t-shirt for a khaki uniform, to join the team as a full-time Ranger!

Maddie worked mainly with mammals to start with but was soon but was soon presenting all wildlife shows  and moved on to feeding crocodiles, including Krakatoa!

Maddie took some time off for the birth of her own joey, but returned to help run the bird department with Ranger Lachie. The have made huge improvements to the welfare of our birds, renovating enclosures, providing enrichment and perfecting their diets.

For the past year or so Maddie has also coordinated our volunteer programme, recruiting and training to ensure the well-being of all of our amazing helpers.

Maddie is moving on to further her education in animal care. We know she will be a huge success in her new career but all of us, including her feathery, furred and scaly friends, will miss her warmth, her wisdom and her kind and lovely spirit.

Happy Trails, Ranger Maddie. It’s been a joy to work with you.
